Strange events are far from unusual in the life of Henley Open Water Swimming Club. We’ve had skinny dips for Summer and Winter Solstice, dancing on the riverbank, trombone playing in the water, and one of our members has even been seen swimming an inflatable unicorn. Taking all that into account, the sight of approximately 20 swimmers stood eating from Rude Health™ porridge pots on the side of The Thames shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
So how did it all come about? Well… Phil Cater usually known for his riverside barbecues came across an event called ‘Wild Swim and Porridge’ hosted by Rude Health™ the natural food company and rightly decided not to be outdone, contacted them and convinced them that HOWSC were worthy recipients of a few boxes of the stuff and ‘Porridge at The Pot’ was born. Armed with flasks of hot water and spoons the HOWSC membership descended upon our swim spot at The Flower Pot in Aston and following a 3.79°c swim tucked into the welcome breakfast snack.
So the gauntlet has now been thrown down. Who will take up the challenge of obtaining more freebies? Anything is possible!
